Today, the Best of Italy is at the centre of the Dunville Avenue community. Known for its extensive range of fresh fruit and vegetables on display outside the shop and a cornucopia of treats inside, Catriona and Ken have created a special landmark on Dublin’s foodie landscape.
The Best of Italy serves a community of regular shoppers who stock up from the shop’s extensive De Cecco pasta range or fill their basket with chunks of Parmiggiano Reggiano; San Daniele Ham; jars of artichoke hearts and bottles of Italian wine. Other shoppers come for the harder-to-source ingredients like focaccia yeast; truffle oils; thinly cut slices of bresaola and a biscotti range sure to evoke memories of home in Italian customers. At Christmas and Easter the shop’s shelves are home to panettone; columba and other seasonal Italian treats while in summer a busy gelato counter keeps customers cool.
